What are the treatment modalities associated with Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion and manipulation of hair-thin needles into specific points that lie along meridians throughout the body that encourage healing, improves mood or energy, relieves pain and improves the function of various areas of the body.  For those that are needle sensitive or adverse to them, non-needle therapies aligned with Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts are available.

Asian Body Works

A manual therapy using techniques ranging from soft energetics, to deep and vigorous manipulation to affect soft tissue, structural alignment and the meridian systems.  In many cases, body works are an excellent modality used in conduction with acupuncture treatments.  Adjunctive therapies such as moxibustion, cupping, guasha and external liniment applications are also used as needed.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine is an internal system of medicine that uses classical herbal formulas based on hundreds of herbs found in the Chinese Materia Medica.  It is based on over 2,000 years of medical experience and is considered safe and effective when prescribed by a licensed Acupuncturist/Herbalist and it can greatly enhance your healing when used alone or in addition to acupuncture treatments.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy often includes activities that emphasize the gentle flow and movement of the body, encouraging the smooth flow of Qi that is necessary to maintain health, harmony, and well-being.  Some low impact forms of exercise consistent with these principles include walking, jogging, swimming, cycling and yoga.

Nutritional Therapy

Chinese Nutritional Therapy is based on the principles of eating a variety of foods according to one's constitution.  There is no single best diet for everyone as it is based upon an individual's health state and physical condition.  We don't prescribe diets, but instead suggest dietary choices aligned with the patients constitution and their current condition.

Lifestyle & Behavioral Education

We all recognize that to maintain a healthy and vital body, mind, and spirit, it is essential to have a lifestyle that supports this goal.  We consider appropriate sleep, exercise, relaxation, and your daily habits which all play a part in promoting or inhibiting good health.  Smoking or eating to excess are detrimental to our health and areas where Acupuncture & Herbal medicine can help.
